Art Exhibitions in Great Yarmouth
Norfolk-based artist Jane Hall is probably best known for her bright, Pop Art-style ice cream and fruit machine paintings, but her latest exhibition at Great Yarmouth Library sees her work moving off in an exciting new direction. A series of paintings entitled 'Postcards From Great Yarmouth' sees the artist taking the familiar sights of this popular British seaside resort and turning them into 5 x 7-inch orginal paintings, each the size of the traditional seaside postcard. Using acrylic on canvas board, she paints well-known local monuments, such as St Nicholas Church, St George's Theatre, Waterways, Leisureland and The Mint.

But it's not just the more obvious subjects that feature in this new range of original paintings. Jane Hall also turns her artistic eye to lesser known sights and hidden local treasures, such as the launderette on King Street, the Lucky Star takeaway on St Peter's Road and the Murco petrol station on Northgate Street. Many of these more obscure subjects are captured in night-time scenes in which the play of light in a window adds an extra air of mystery and mood. In paintings such as these the artist seems to be saying that even the most unlikely venue can be turned into a work of art - a convience store, say, or a kebab shop.
The 'Postcards From Great Yarmouth' paintings are on display at Great Yarmouth Library until 22nd of February 2014.
