Pukka Pies paintings wow visitors at Jane Hall opening night

Pukka Pie Paintings

PUKKA PIES 1 - acrylic on canvas, £250

Her popular seaside paintings have made her one of Great Yarmouth's best-known artists, but it was her three large paintings of Pukka Pies that made the biggest impact at Jane Hall's opening at the Great Yarmouth Art Gallery. Displayed as a triptych, the bright, vibrant acrylic on canvas Pukka Pies paintings dominated the room and were a talking point all evening. Clearly owing an artistic debt to Andy Warhol and his soup cans, Jane's incredibly realistic paintings of these much-loved pies (sold in fish and chip shops throughout Great Yarmouth) show a level of detail and artistic accuarcy that borders on Photorealism.

Also on display at this latest exhibition were two of Jane's more recent ice cream paintings - and she continues to take artistic inspiration from both the seafront and some of Yarmouth's quieter back streets. But her work will be taking a detour next month, as her exhibition of Soho sex shops opens at Reading Room, Frith Street in London. Although she promises to get back to the seaside soon; and even has more plans for Pukka Pies paintings. "The response to the three paintings was amazing," she said. "Especially the big one! Everyone kept saying it looked good enough to eat."
