Great Yarmouth artist Jane Hall has always taken her inspiration from the Great British seaside that sits on her doorstep. She is known for her paintings of amusement arcades, fish and chip shops, Pleasure Beach rides and ice creams, and it's the latest development in her ice cream paintings that has lately been causing the biggest stir. The Norfolk-based artist has been experimenting with thick layers of paint applied with a palette knife to create images that capture the real texture of ice cream. She has kept these paintings small and affordable; and has now put them for sale online at Jane Hall's Online Ice Cream Parlour.

Original Ice Cream Paintings

Jane says: "Many of my original ice cream paintings weren't really paintings of ice cream at all. They were, in fact, pictures of plastic ice creams used as advertising signage; but lately I've been concentrating more and more on capturing real, edible ice creams in paint. I started off with a Knickerbocker Glory, which worked really well using thicker paint, then I started buying sundaes and 99s from the seafront stores in Yarmouth, Gorleston and Hemsby. I love how paint can look just like ice cream and also like chocolate and strawberry sauce. It means I can create bright, colouful pictures that look just as tasty as the subjects that inspired them."

Jane recently completed an ice cream commission for a Great Yarmouth cafe on Marine Parade. "They wanted images of their own ice creams and desserts on their walls," she explains, "and I would love to do more work like that. But in the meantime, I'm giving everyone the chance to buy one of my ice cream paintings online. I'm keeping them affordable, so if you'd like to buy an ice cream picture, head to my brand new online store."
